When is phone & online counselling NOT recommended?

Online and phone counselling with a private psychologist are NOT recommended if you are thinking about killing yourself or hurting someone else. If you are suicidal or are afraid you’re going to hurt someone else, you need to go to your local hospital, call a help-line, or call 911 and ask for help. Go to www.befrienders.org for help-line information in your country and area.

Online and phone counselling is also not a good idea if you think you need hospitalization, are having delusions, disorganized thoughts, or hallucinations. Again, please call a help-line, call 911, or go to a local hospital.

How long are counselling and coaching appointments online and on the phone?

Your first appointment will be 60-90 minutes in order to share relevant information and set goals. Subsequent appointments will be 60 minutes.

Should I choose phone or online counselling or coaching?

You may have different preferences. Phone counselling or coaching may be beneficial for you if you want to be able to walk around while you talk, get a cup of tea, sit on your patio, or drive (safely!!) in your car. Live online counselling may be beneficial if you’d like to see who you’re talking with and if you’d prefer to sit down at your computer for a focused conversation. With online counselling or coaching, you will need a headset and if desired, a Camcorder. You will also need Skype downloaded on your computer. This is a free online program available at www.skype.com

When would I use e-mail counselling or coaching?

E-mail counselling or coaching is a service you may want to use in between sessions if you have a quick question, need to put some thoughts down in writing, or if you prefer e-mail to communicate.

It’s easy to do from the comfort & safety of your own home, hotel, car, or any place with phone / computer access!
